THE GOLDEN AGE
During the early 90s the G-funk style of hip hop emerged from Los Angeles, combining melodic elements of Motown, Funk, and R&B with socially-aware gangsta rap. For the first time in history, a hip-hop album debuted at #1 on the pop charts and the genre became a staple of mainstream American culture. But who were the true originators of this movement that commercialized rap music?
THE BIG 3
It began with Warren G, Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg, who as childhood friends formed the rap group 213. Early in our film’s development, we came across archival tapes of the trio. By combining the never-before-seen footage with stylized storytelling sequences, we were able to tell a classic story in a unique way.
